About Aamaterra
Some facts, general CV, thoughts
Hi!
I am a creative human individual being in a constant process of self-discovery and seeking for something greater. I create because I can. I feel the Universe most alive within me when I create.
Artist statement
Aamaterra is an Artifact artist based in Berlin, originally from the small town of Kingisepp in Russia, near the border with Estonia. She has lived abroad for over seven years and identifies not just with her roots, but as a citizen of the planet — an Earthling.

Using a diverse range of mediums, Aamaterra creates Artifacts. Aamaterra's artistic style is predominantly abstract, characterized by strong contrasts, neon, vibrant and reflective colours, and fine lines. The central motif woven throughout Aamaterra's creations is finding inner balance and awakening of consciousness, body, inner potential, creative power, and true authentic self. Aamaterra believes that by expanding and transcending the boundaries and limitations of one's personal self, individuals nurture and collaboratively shape the collective.

Aamaterra's main source of inspiration is life itself. For her, being fulfilled with energy, being alive, and the opportunity to experience life through having a collaboration of body, mind and soul, and ability to navigate that throughout life is imbued with inspiration every second of the precious time.

Alëna also holds two degrees: a BA in Sociology from Saint Petersburg University and a BA in Arts from the University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Berlin. She has participated in various exhibitions in Berlin. A new exhibition at:ARAXIA is coming on 12.10.24 at Inclover Studio, located at Joachim-Friedrich-Straße 37, 10711 Berlin.

Body painting

PAS Berlin
Kaiserin-Augusta-Allee 101
10553 Berlin
Body painting at SOMA, a closed nude fluoro body art bass (somatik techno) music party.

Main idea of Aamaterra's body art was built around the concept of chakras. Chakras are energy centers within the body that are believed to correspond to different aspects of our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves. There are seven main chakras, each located at a different point along the spinal column, where Aamaterra painted them.

During SOMA Aamaterra suggested those, whom she painted, to participate in the ritual: concentrate their Energy on those chakras which they want to develop, so she added some accents to these points.

The participants could also choose the color and some additional elements of the body art. So, every body art turned out to be unique as well as the Human who carried it.

Origin
Aamaterra was born as Alëna Ivanova on October 7, 1994, in a family of an architect and an engineer in the small industrial town of Kingisepp, on the border of Russia and Estonia. All creative endeavors were approved by Alëna's mother. Additionally to general education, she studied singing, folk dancing, performing, English, art history, painting, sculpture, graphics, and composition (Art School), the art of journalism, video editing, and video production (TV Studio), and more. As a result, Alëna grew up very handy, creative and curious. Searching for the answer to the question "Who am I?" and eager to expand her potential and experiences, at the age of 17, she left her home to study in the big city.

Education & Freedom
Following her interest in social activism (as a teenager Alëna was an active volunteer), in 2012 Alëna enters one of the oldest universities in Russia — Saint Petersburg State University, Faculty of Sociology. Here, in addition to her studies, she gains new experiences by immersing herself in the culture of a big city: architecture, museums, theaters, exhibitions, creative spaces, art, dance, and music. At some point in Saint Petersburg, she become involved in the underground rave scene, and electronic sounds have been guiding her through life ever since.

Even though Saint Petersburg seems to be the most free Russian city, during her last year (2016) of studying there, Alëna realises that she needs to open new horizons. Just after defending her Bachelor’s Thesis in Sociology, she goes to San Francisco for about half a year. Here, she encounters American, Californian, and San Francisco culture of freedom, her own summer of love.

The whole experience of living abroad, and particularly in San Francisco, not only opens new horizons for Alëna but transforms her entire consciousness and image of the world. It becomes a life-changing experience, and as a result, Alëna realizes that she doesn’t see how to continue her path in Russia and that she wants to come back to her artistic roots and try herself in design.

In 2017, Alëna starts studying Communication Design at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences and moves to Berlin. After defending her second thesis in Communication design, in 2021 Alëna graduates with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

In 2021, Alëna starts dedicating more time to what she truly loves and begins painting her original ideas. In Berlin, Alëna immerses herself in the city's culture and discovers a different approach and attitude to freedom. Here, she dives into understanding and learning, finding and creating herself.
Why Aamaterra?
Aamaterra believes that a name is very important for our human experience. Her birth name, Alëna, means "sunshine" or "sunlight". After experiencing the beginning of her spiritual awakening, Alëna felt a need for a new name that would align with her worldview. Additionally, she loves to play with languages and meanings of words. She implements this practice in her artworks when giving names to the artifacts. So, here appears Aamaterra, which combines meanings such as power, love, mother, matter, earth, and era.
Yoga, spirituality, workshops
Alëna Aamaterra is a yogi. She believes that maintaining healthy relationships and aligning with the body contribute to the development of the mind and consciousness. In 2024, Alëna completes a yoga teacher training (Ashtanga/Hatha) at the Oceanic Yoga Ashram in Goa, India.

In addition to delving deep within, Aamaterra enriches the external, manifested world by organizing exhibitions, events, and workshops to share with fellow human beings. Now she offers two workshops: Artifact workshop and Lila game workshop.
